Here’s the thing about General H.R. McMaster. He was, at best, Donald Trump’s fourth choice for National Security Adviser. Trump never wanted him, and was never going to trust him. No one even knows why McMaster took the job, least of all McMaster himself. He’s got to be questioning his life choices right about now. And this weekend, he rubbed up against the point of no return.
All along, Donald Trump was supposed to have H.R. McMaster in his meeting with Vladimir Putin. But when the meeting happened, McMaster was not allowed in the room after all (source: CNN). This was rather striking considering that McMaster was in the room for Trump’s prior meeting awhile back with the Russia Foreign Minister and Russian Ambassador. In fact, after the Russians revealed that Trump had given them classified intel, it was McMaster who went out and lied to the media about it on Trump’s behalf.
But that’s over with now. Trump is done with McMaster. Doesn’t trust him with the Russia secrets anymore. So now McMaster is in too deep to just quit, yet he’s clearly been marked as Trump’s next scapegoat. There’s only one way out.
It’s time for H.R. McMaster to turn state’s evidence against Donald Trump. He’s still active duty military. He can claim Trump ordered him to lie to the media. And if he combines that by fessing up about whatever treason he witnessed during that first meeting between Trump and the Russians, the Feds will surely give him a clean slate. It’s time for McMaster to flip while there’s still a deal to be made. That window is closing by the minute.
